The Kinks and MMA

What do The Kinks and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts for anyone who's been hiding under a rock for the last 10yrs) have in common? I'm not sure, but Evan gives a pretty fine example of how to combine a bit of freestyle dancing to The Kinks with a very nice impromptu roundhouse kick, look for it around the 26sec mark.

Everything the boys know about martial arts they've learned from me (and Kung Fu Panda) and they already know their fighting stances (Muay Thai based) can throw jabs, crosses, elbows and knees, plus a bonus front snap kick or two but I haven't shown them the roundhouse yet. Yikes.

Evan knows it's just something we do together and he's not to do it around other kids (especially his brother) and so this one came as a bit of a surprise. Doesn't look like he'll learn any Dim Mak this year. ;-)

Yeah...maybe hold off on "the touch"

You accidentally get to close to your brother's liver 7 or some such instead of just the buzz over the noodle with a good ole' roundhouse and Mom will come unhinged. :o

Just wait till Doreen checks out the vid, hahaha.

A few days ago I was teaching Evan to Ninja-walk. ;-)

Like "in the footsteps"?

I used to do that when I was a teenager...pretty sure nobody ever knew that and I've never mentioned it before now either.

But doing it in grade school is way cooler. :)

Sometimes we do 'in the footsteps' when we are tracking. For now, the ninja-walk includes going down the adventure walk trails and having to step over and around blades of grass hanging out in to the path.

When he gets in a rhythm I add extra pressure by pretending to be a crocodile coming to get him. ;-)
